If x + y = 8z, then which of the following represents the average (arithmetic mean) of x,y, and z, in terms of z?
(A) 2z + 1
(B) 3z
(C) 5z
(D) z/3
(E) (3z) / 2
Doh! This seemingly easy question stumped me and took me way more than the alloted 2 minutes to figure out.

Answer is (B) 3z
Gmat is all about understanding exactly what they are asking for. Gmat likes to confuse you, but this is actually a really easy question.
The given is x+y=8z
To get the average of x,y,z, you would:
(x+y+z) / 3
Now all you gotta do is replace x+y with the given (8z):
(8z + z) / 3 =
(9z) / 3 = 3z
I believe I was over thinking this question and I allowed Gmat to confuse me.
